Light is a Nutrient

Sunlight is full of nutrients in the form of different colored wavelengths that signal specific tasks inside the body based on the blend of frequencies, the brightness and time of day.

Before sunrise, infrared dominates, and the brightness is low.

Infrared expands our EZ "water battery" to start the day.

A larger blend of red light and infrared comes near sunrise.

Red light revs up water/ATP production in the mitochondria.

At sunrise, a key blend of blue and red appears, signaling the mitochondria make pregnenolone - which can become cortisol & all sex hormones.

At this time, our body decides if we should divert pregnenolone to sex hormones to make a baby or if we are under stress and need more cortisol instead.

When the sun is 10° above the horizon, ultraviolet A comes through.

UVA is captured by aromatic amino acids in our eyes to create serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.

POMC, another molecule, gets cleaved to become beta-endorphin, MSH, and more.

These chemicals regulate mood, appetite, pain, sex drive, etc.

This is nature's way of giving you energy and focus to start your day.

UVA on the skin makes nitric oxide, which dilates the blood vessels to lower blood pressure.

UV also degrades excess steroid hormones.

So morning sunlight both drives hormone production and balances it out.

Hormone issues are typically light issues.

When the sun is at 30°, UVB —the final frequency—comes.

UVB on the skin makes vitamin D (and its plethora of biologically active metabolites, including lumisterol and tachysterol), regulating hundreds of genes.

After solar noon, frequencies start to leave in the reverse order they came.

At sunset, blue light disappears from our environment. This signals nightfall (and hence the recommendation to block blue light at night). Sunset light is also full of red light/infrared frequencies that heal inflammation, support mitochondria, and are a soothing way to end the day.

Light is a nutrient!
